OVER 10 YEARS AGO, THE BOOK CRADLE TO CRADLE inspired many to "remake the way we make things". It centers on an ambitious goal: products should have a positive impact on health and the environment. The Cradle to Cradle Product Certification Program provides guidance, measurement, and verification to realize this goal. The multi-attribute assessment evaluates a material and associated processes against standards in five categories: Material Health, Material Reutilization, Water Stewardship, Renewable Energy & Carbon Management, and Social Fairness. The output helps specifiers compare and select the best materials for human health and environmental sustainability. This course will introduce v3 of the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ protocol, provide detail on how each of the five attributes is evaluated by independent assessors, and will go into depth on the rigorous material health methodology and how Cradle to Cradle Certified products can contribute to LEED v4 projects.

Learning Objectives:
  1. 1. Articulate the five attributes of Cradle to Cradle Product Certification, why they are important and how they are measured
  2. 2. Reference each level of certification (basic, bronze, silver, gold and platinum) and know what that says about a product in each of the five attributes
  3. 3. Understand how Cradle to Cradle certified, the material Health Certificate and other transparency tools are referenced in LEED v4
  4. 4. Use Cradle to Cradle Certified products where appropriate to achieve LEED v4 credits and reduce negative impacts associated with material use.
