Beyond the Tipping Point: Light Your Way to a Sustainable Future

Lighting provides unparalleled utility within our built environment, although with these benefits there is an environmental trade-off. The production of electricity produces greenhouse gases and other pollutants, and the manufacture of lighting equipment consumes resources. Join us in this one hour course to evaluate the environmental upsides of low-cost, sustainable tubular LED retrofits for existing linear fluorescent systems for buildings and interiors, while exploring the critical performance differences and safety and health impacts within this rapidly maturing technology.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe lighting quality, product quality, energy performance and health characteristics of different lighting systems
  2. Calculate and compare the return on investment for lighting retrofits using tubular LEDs
  3. Identify environmental impacts resulting from lighting in buildings
  4. Evaluate LEED v4 credits related to lighting for existing and new buildings
