A Green Alternative to Surface Finishing: “Powder Coating”

A Green Alternative to Surface Finishing: “Powder Coating”

The goal of this course is mainly to create awareness about powder coating technology as an environmentally friendly alternative to liquid coatings. After this course, the design professional will be aware of the environmental and physical advantages of powder coating systems in order to knowledgably specify them in place of conventional liquid coating systems.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Define powder coating and understand the difference between powder coating and liquid coating systems in terms of environmental impact, technology, and application process
  2. Describe how powder coating offers a significantly lower total carbon footprint when compared to other architectural coating system options
  3. Identify the impact of coating film thickness on CO2 emissions and its effect on occupants and installers
  4. Discuss how the prolonged durability and longevity of a coating system positively impacts the environment and people
  5. Review sustainability credits that directly apply to the utilization of powder coating on your project
