Calculating Recycled Content for LEED
Alex Spilger has worked on over 40 LEED projects across the LEED NC, CI, CS, ND and EBOM Rating Systems. He has served as the Project Team Administrator and LEED Consultant on 12 of those projects. In addition to his experience managing the people and processes involved with taking projects through LEED Certification, he has in depth experience documenting the Indoor Water Efficiency credit in the LEED NC, CS, EBOM and CI rating systems. As a well respected educator, Alex has taught over 100 workshops on the LEED Rating System through organizations such as the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, the Sustainable Building Advisors Program and the California Center for Sustainable Energy.
This course includes practical knowledge regarding Recycled Content materials within the LEED v3 NC, CI and EBOM Rating Systems and demonstrates how to properly complete the LEED calculations for recycled content using both Post-consumer and Pre-consumer. Complete calculations both by hand and by utilizing the LEED MRc4 template. These guided practice problems will help participants gain a working understanding of these calculations for implementation on LEED projects.
- Explain how the recycled content is addressed within different LEED Rating Systems and indicate system synergies
- Describe recycled content credit calculation inputs, variables, assumptions & equations including the difference between Pre and Post consumer
- Calculate the overall recycled content percentage for a given project using multiple materials and comparing them to the Total Materials Cost
- Calculate the recycled content dollar value for a material that has different recycled content percentages by weight
