After 15 years since introduction of LEED 2.0, nearly 35,000 US commercial buildings and about 250,000 homes have been certified. However, there are 5.5 million such buildings and nearly 133 million residences in the US. In addition, new project registrations have leveled off to zero growth (steady state) since peak years in 2011-2013. Clearly, current programs won’t be effective in reaching low-carbon goals for buildings, a key component of climate-change mitigation strategies. Reinventing Green Building combines an insider’s critique of the current state of affairs with a potent vision for the future.

Learning Objectives:
  1. 1. Explain the limitations of LEED certification in various US market segments, and identify alternatives to LEED certification
  2. 2. Consider how new technology offers opportunities for building management
  3. 3. Describe the concepts driving Low-Carbon Buildings, and discuss the barriers to widespread implementation of low-carbon solutions
  4. 4. Expand your green building vision to embrace Internet 3.0 technologies for building automation

  5. This course offers:
  6. • Up-to-date, factual information on green building programs, certifications, costs and market penetration
  7. • Radical new approaches to designing certification systems and enhancing user experience
  8. • Creative, outside-the-box solutions using the Internet of Things, big data analytics and cloud-based technologies for building management, to reinvigorate approaches to green building certification.
  9. Reinventing Green Building presents a dramatically new approach to building certification, designed to radically cut costs while rapidly increasing marketplace uptake. This interactive presentation presents facts, introduces new perspectives, challenges listeners’ perceptions, and engages them in a creative dialog about the future.
